Striving To Provide The Best Deep Tissue Massage in Edmonton
Updated: Jan 27
As a Licensed and Registered Massage Therapist in Edmonton, I strive to give my patients the best care possible. That is why I specialize in deep tissue massage that treats musculoskeletal issues associated with strains and sports injuries.
Deep tissue massage is not just a more aggressive form of Swedish massage. Deep tissue combines pressure and slow massage strokes to break up scar tissue and break down muscle adhesions otherwise known as knots.
Deep tissue techniques are fantastic at addressing specific problems and helping patients find almost immediate relief. Not sure if deep tissue massage is right for you? Below I will explain why I specialize in deep tissue massage, who this technique is best suited for and its numerous health benefits.
What Is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that specifically addresses musculoskeletal issues that can happen suddenly and last for a short period of time like a sprain or fracture or be a lifelong issue or disability.
When massage has a deep tissue focus, it involves long periods of pressure applied at certain points combined with slow, deep strokes to break up scar tissue in your muscles and connective tissues.
When a deep tissue massage begins, the pressure is usually lighter so the muscles can warm up. Once ready, a licensed massage therapist will begin to apply deep pressure and glide their hands along your muscle fibers. This pressure will begin to break up the adhesions in your muscles and release tension.
Who Is Deep Tissue Massage For?
Deep tissue massage is a powerful treatment method that is great for a variety of conditions. However, deep tissue massage is best suited for people who are highly active and participate in physical activities on a regular basis like sports or working out.
If you have a low pain tolerance or are looking for a relaxing experience, Swedish massage is a better choice for you.
The Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage gets to the root of the issue by focusing on injured tissue and knots in your muscles. While the pressure may feel strong during the session, it is powerful in its ability to release the restrictions within your muscles and tissues that have developed as a result of strain or injury.
There are dozens of long-lasting benefits associated with deep tissue massage. Some of them include reduced pain and tension, increased range of motion, relief of chronic lower back pain, inflammation relief, and in some cases reduced blood pressure.
There have also been numerous studies suggesting deep tissue massage is an effective form of relief for people suffering with ankylosing spondylitis, a type of arthritis.
Why Do I Specialize In Deep Tissue Massage?
I have been a licensed and registered massage therapist for almost ten years. I perform a variety of techniques for my patients depending on what their needs are and their specific areas of intended focus. Swedish massage, hot stone massage, Thai and orthopedic massage are some of the services I offer.
However, deep tissue massage has become a particular focus for me in recent years because of its powerful ability to address root issues and provide pain relief immediately for people and athletes desperate to get back to their daily lives.
Deep tissue massage works out the underlying pressure and pain issues in the muscles and fascia. It needs deep pressure to be effective, but that doesn’t mean it has to be incredibly painful. Pressure intensity can vary depending on what the patient prefers.
I communicate throughout my sessions for constant feedback so I know you are comfortable while also knowing I am providing effective relief. Not sure if deep tissue massage is right for you? The best way to know is to try it for a few sessions.
I am happy to provide consultations with new patients to better understand their problem areas and goals. Together, we put together a treatment plan that combines different massage techniques with at-home stretching and self massage tips so you can begin to see improvements in your life right away.
